Anticonvulsant drugs have been widely used in the treatment of neuropathic pain reasoning the fundamental mechanisms are similar with some epilepsy and neuropathic pain models, though their action is still limited understood.

In vitro studies indicate, an MHD-induced blockade of voltage-sensitive sodium channels, resulting in stabilization of hyper excited neuronal membranes, inhibition of repetitive neuronal discharges, and diminution of propagation of synaptic impulses.

Oxcarbazepine is completely absorbed following oral administration. Food has an effect on the rate and extent of absorption of oxcarbazepine.

Oxcarbazepine is cleared from the body mostly in the form of metabolites which are not predominantly excreted by the Kidneys.

Approximately 40.1% of the active 10-monohydroxy metabolite (MHD) is bound to serum proteins, predominantly to albumin.

For Extended-release initial dose of 600 mg orally once a day for one week, increased by increments of 600 mg per day at weekly intervals as clinically indicated.
